[RAMEAU] Guides touristiques et de visiteIndex. décimale : 811.111:39(410) Anglais – culture et civilisation (Grande-Bretagne) Résumé : Since long before the Celtic Prince Bladud discovered the healing properties of the magical hot spring water, Bath has attracted inquisitive visitors. Flint tools found at the site indicate the presence of Stone Age hunters who wintered near the spring for its warmth, and hoards of Bronze Age tools have been found nearby. Some visitors, such as the Romans who built the sacred baths, stayed for hundreds of years, while others, like Princess Victoria, paid a passing visit. Some came the bathe, other ta gamble. But all have made a lasting impression on the city.
The passing ages have left behind them a rich legacy - the fascinating Roman Bath, the splendid Tudor Abbey - perhaps none more so than the Georgian era and its elegant architecture. This gracious Georgian city was created by the genius and inspiration of three men: Ralph Allen, entrepreneur, John Wood, architect, and Beau Nash, Bath's MAster of Ceremonies.
Designated a World Heritage Site in 1987, Bath has preserved its treasures so that visitors can enjoy a city steeped in intriguing history.Note de contenu : - Places to visit

[RAMEAU] Londres (GB)Index. décimale : 811.111:39(410) Anglais – culture et civilisation (Grande-Bretagne) Résumé : The name "Tower of London" has long been used for the whole of the great fortress and palace founded by William the Conqueror. It belonged originally, however, to the central and most conspicuous feature, the keep - the great square tower, now called the White Tower.
William raised the Tower to overwave as well as defend the city, placing it at the south-east corner of the city, immediately within the boundary wall built during the Roman occupation and restored by Alfred the Great in 885. This strategic position gave the Tower control of the River Thames and London Bridge as well as the city itself.Cycle : Généralités Niveau des études secondaires : général Permalink : http://www.galileonet.be/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=133253 Exemplaires (1)

[RAMEAU] Rois et souverains -- Grande-BretagneIndex. décimale : 811.111:39(410) Anglais – culture et civilisation (Grande-Bretagne) Résumé : The Tudor age represents a pivotal period of English history. In little more than a century the nation was transformed from a medieval kingdom to a modern state, from an insignificant offshore island into a major world power. It was an era of enterprise and opportunity, a time when men of moderate means and humble background could achieve greatness and glory. [RAMEAU] Cathédrales
[RAMEAU] ConstructionsIndex. décimale : 811.111:39(410) Anglais – culture et civilisation (Grande-Bretagne) Résumé : Salisbury is unique amongst medieval English cathedrals, built within one century with no substantial later additions. The buildings itself is remarkable, a testimony to the faith and practical skill of those who erected it. This guide will tell you much about its history and architecture.
But it is much more than an historical monument. It is the Cathedral Church of the Salisbury dioceseand so the Mother Church of several hundred parishes in Wiltshire and Dorset. It is a centre of pilgrimage for hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Every day, week in week out, for century after century, God is worshipped here. Above all this is a place of prayer.
I hope that reading ths guide will help you to look at the building with new eyes, to enjoy its history and to experience its atmosphere of workship.Cycle : Généralités Niveau des études secondaires : général Permalink : http://www.galileonet.be/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=133294 Exemplaires (1)
