Flint tools found at the site indicate the presence of Stone Age hunters who wintered near the spring for its warmth, and hoards of Bronze Age tools have been found nearby. Some visitors, such as the Romans who built the sacred baths, stayed for hundreds of years, while others, like Princess Victoria, paid a passing visit. Some came the bathe, other ta gamble. But all have made a lasting impression on the city.
The passing ages have left behind them a rich legacy - the fascinating Roman Bath, the splendid Tudor Abbey - perhaps none more so than the Georgian era and its elegant architecture. This gracious Georgian city was created by the genius and inspiration of three men: Ralph Allen, entrepreneur, John Wood, architect, and Beau Nash, Bath's MAster of Ceremonies.
Designated a World Heritage Site in 1987, Bath has preserved its treasures so that visitors can enjoy a city steeped in intriguing history.Note de contenu : - Places to visit
